Our selection practices pretty much eliminate any lesser grades of staves.

We essentially offer two grades of staves and they are Similar. $45.00 and 85.00

We offer some Staves that are thinner and would require a riser to be glued to the handle area.

Yew Wood

Yew Staves will vary in length from 68 inches to 74 inches. We are now offering War Bow staves for making reproductions of the war bows recovered from the Mary Rose. They will be 75inches to 84 inches in length. The dimensions in the handle area will be at a minimums 2 inches wide and 2 inches thick. They will will designated in the gallery by YW with the regular yew staves listed as YS

The best staves are clear and straight with thin sapwood and tight rings. These are denoted by AAAA	$250.00 YS $300.00 YW	Click here for the pictures on the Gallery Page
The next best best staves are straight with possibly a pin knot or two These are denoted by AAA	$150.00 YS $200.00 YW
AA staves are good staves but may have pin knots or might require a little steaming and bending.	$ 75.00 YS $100.00 YW
Lowest quality Staves may contain defects that would be a challenge for the experienced bowyer but will make a bow. They are denoted by the letter A	$ 50.00 YS $ 65.00 YW
The Billets are clear and straight with thin sapwood and tight rings. These are denoted by AAAA The next best best Billets are straight with possibly a pin knot or two These are denoted by AAA AA Billets are good Billets but may have pin knots or might require a little steaming and bending. Billets are 40 to 44 inches in length	AAAA $150.00 AAA $100.00 AA $50.00

Vine Maple Vine maple Bow staves are from 66" to 74" in length. $35.00 and up plus shipping.
