The glorious yew tree has a long history as a tool of man. Otzi pushed the date of this relationship back into the neolithic age. Recently yew was made into another "tool" when it was harvested for it's bark which was used to produce the cancer fighting drug taxol.

Many yew trees were cut down just for their bark and the wood was left to rot on the forest floor. This was sad news for the world's bowyers.

Today a good stave is a rarity and very difficult to locate. Many yew trees can still be found but they will not produce bow quality staves. It takes a very practiced bowyer to identify the "right" tree. Our 20 years of experience are your best assurance that the staves you purchase from us are the best available.

We select the trees best suited for making a bow.

The wood is cut into staves and then the Stave is sealed to prevent checking. The stave is then air dried.

We offer some Staves that are thinner and would require a riser to be glued to the handle area.

YEW BOW STAVE PRICING

Our best yew bow staves are 200.00. These are extra long so that the bowyer can easily replicate a Mary Rose war bow.

A premium Yew bow stave ranging in length from 68 inches to 74 inches is 150.00.

A more economical stave sells for 100.00 and may have pin knots or need to be steamed to straighten.

We have short length yew staves for making what are called coastal staves. These are about 45.00.

We do save staves that could best be called “challenge” staves. These are priced at 45.00.
